McGovern Series Brings More Than 4.4 Million To BBC One

The Street A brilliant episode of Jimmy McGovern’s The Street brought more than 4.4 million adults on average to BBC One last night between 9pm and 10pm.

The multi-award winning programme, which each episode centres around a different story line and family on the same street, last night focused on taxi driver Eddie – played by the magnificent Timothy Spall.

McGovern’s fabulously written series gave the channel a 21.8% viewing share in the timeslot, compared to a 17.9% share for ITV1’s new estate agent drama, Sold, which had an audience of more than 3.6 million.

BBC Two’s comedy night failed to really wow viewers, with a new series of Never Mind The Buzzcocks luring almost 2.7 million (13%) followed by Jack Dee’s Lead Balloon with just over 1.8 million (8.9%).

Over on Five, The Hotel Inspector took an audience of over 1.3 million, giving the channel a 6.5% viewing share.

Earlier, I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! was watched by an average of more than 5.8 million adults, which equated to a 27.3% audience share for ITV1, whilst Waterloo Road took a 20.4% share with more than 4.3 million tuning in to BBC One.

Autumnwatch on BBC Two proved a pull for just over 3.2 million (15%), whilst Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s River Cottage: Gone Fishing hooked a little under two million (9.2%).

Later on, the I’m A Celebrity… live bush tucker trials, which once again saw the public pick Janice Dickinson for the creepy task, were enjoyed by more than 5.7 million adults, giving ITV1 a 29.8% audience share between 10pm and 10.30pm.
