Media – Key Issues Facing Advertisers
The future of the BBC, major TV mergers and Channel 5 are among some of the key issues facing advertisers, according to Graham Robson, retiring President of the Incorporated Society of British Advertisers. Speaking at the AGM, at the end of his two year term as President, Graham Robson said, “Media issues during my Presidency have been relentless; the impact of the Broadcasting Act, the new shape of Channel 3 and Channel 4 – followed rapidly by changes in the structure of Channel 3 and major mergers – have changed the landscape completely.”
He also predicted that new challenges and changes will shortly be raised by the forthcoming Green Paper from the European Commission on advertising and commercial communication. Simon Bullimore, managing director of Mars Confectionery, was officially elected new President at the Annual General Meeting; three vice presidents were also elected:
Graham Robson, Spillers Foods
Keith Holloway, Grand Metropolitan plc
Malcolm Earnshaw, Pedigree Petfoods
Other business at the meeting was amendments to the official articles and memorandum of the ISBA, in order to comply with the changes in the Companies Act.
