Men Find Man O Man Offensive

The ITC has received nine complaints regarding ITV’s Saturday evening show Man O Man in which an audience of three hundred women assess ten men on their looks, personalities and talents. The complainants, who were mainly men, believed that the programme was degrading to men and would not have been allowed if the sexes of the participants were reversed. The ITC did not uphold the complaints however because it believed the programme was “tongue-in-cheek” and most viewers would be unlikely to see it as anything other than good-natured.

Also reported in the ITC’s May Complaints Bulletin were six complaints about Tonight With Richard Madely and Judy Finnigan. These related to perceived unfairness in the interview with OJ Simpson. The ITC believed however that it had no grounds under the Programme Code on which to intervene with the makers of the show.
