Metro International has appointed Toby Constantine to the newly created position of vice president of global marketing and research.
Constantine, who will be based in London, will take responsibility for the group’s global business and consumer driven marketing strategy. He will co-ordinate marketing activities in 28 markets across Europe, the Americas and Asia and will oversee the implementation of group-wide promotional initiatives.
The new position will also see Constantine assume responsibility for the group’s research activities on a global basis, which encompass Metro’s inclusion in local market and international readership surveys.
Prior to joining the Metro group Constantine was marketing manager for The Sun and The News of the World. He later became marketing director for The Sunday Times and The Times.
Commenting on the appointment, Pelle Törnberg, president of Metro International, said: “Metro has grown rapidly to become one of the world’s leading media brands and Toby’s appointment reflects the commercial imperative to achieve maximum leverage in all areas of our business.”
He continued: “Toby has a strong track record and wide-ranging experience in the publishing and advertising industries. He is joining a team that is focused on the continued rapid development of Metro and the promotion of a newspaper brand concept that delivers a uniquely attractive reader profile.”
Constantine added: “My job is to establish a fully-formed marketing function across the network to maximise the enormous potential of the Metro brand to readers and advertisers. It’s an exciting opportunity.”
Metro International recently launched its first ever pan-European advertising campaign with £500,000 worth of activity running across the CNN International news network (see Metro Launches First Pan European Ad Campaign).
