Mirror Group Newspapers is reportedly talking with other papers, in a bid to return to the Press Complaints Commission.
David Montgomery, chief executive of MGN, has made it clear that he will negotiate returning to the regulatory body if Lord McGregor withdraws his demands for a boycott.
The Mirror Group is under pressure from its rivals to rejoin the PCC in order to prevent a total breakdown in self-regulation. The government has said that privacy legislation and statutory controls on the press are now more likely.
