Mirror Group Newspapers has raised its takeover offer to £3.50p a share; this values Newspaper Publishing at £73.65m and is £1 a share higher than the original offer from the consortium. It matches the price paid by Tony O’Reilly for his 24.99% stake.
Independent directors are due to meet this morning to consider the offer, but are thought unlikely to endorse the bid.
