Microsoft has appointed Nick Barley as its director of marketing with responsibility for all marketing and communications in the UK.
Barley will report to the software giant’s UK managing director, Neil Holloway and will join the company’s executive management team in overseeing the growth of the business in the UK. He replaces Oliver Roll, who has been promoted to managing director of marketing for Asia Pacific.
Prior to joining Microsoft, Barley spent seven years at rival software company, Oracle, where he was director of marketing. Commenting on his appointment, he said: “I’m excited about building and developing the team there into a world class marketing organisation with a focus on the overall customer experience.”
Microsoft is also understood to have appointed Manda Rigby as head of enterprise marketing. Rigby, formerly marketing chief at Cisco, will report to directly to Barley.
Microsoft recently paid around £5m to become the official software sponsor of the Commonwealth Games. The deal marked the company’s first foray into UK event sponsorship and was promoted with a multi-platform advertising campaign (see Microsoft Secures Commonwealth Games Sponsorship).
