Mirror Group Launches First Belfast Weekly Newspaper
Mirror Group-owned Century Newspapers is launching Belfast’s first ever weekly newspaper. The first edition of the Belfast News is published today and incorporates a 64-page package.
Century already publishes the free monthly paper, Belfast News Letter. The Belfast News will have a cover price of 50p but will be delivered free to households that have been receiving the free News Letter.
Commenting of the launch, managing director, Martin Gower, said: “It is all part of a programme of energetic revitalisation of the News Letter titles both in Belfast and across Northern Ireland. The time is ripe to build on the success of the free Belfast edition by providing readers and advertisers with an unrivalled package which will give the city the comprehensive weekly coverage it has lacked for too long.”
“Every large town in the Province has a weekly newspaper it can call its own, but the capital city does not,” adds editor Geoff Martin.
