Mirror’s ic24 Announces Books On Line Deal

The Mirror Group’s new free internet access service, ic24.co.uk (see Mirror Group Announces New Media Division and Free ISP), has entered a partnership with Books on Line (BOL), Bertelsmann’s new e-commerce venture that launched in the UK in March. The two year deal is the first ic24 e-commerce partnership to be announced by the Mirror Group.

BOL will provide a books-dedicated channel which Mirror claims will offer access to ‘every book in print’ as well as providing titles targeted at the site’s readers. BOL is driving its service by offering discounts of up to 40%. One of its main competitors in the UK is Amazon.co.uk, which also offers books at lower prices than on the High Street.

ic24 launches this Friday and will link with the regional sites that are already launched and being developed by the Mirror Group. CDs containing the ic24 software will be distributed through Forbuoys and Martins newsagents across the country.

Georges Aoun, managing director of BOL UK, said: “The launch of ic24 will introduce the internet and e-commerce to thousands of people who will have never shopped or surfed online. Mirror Group are forging forward not only for their partners but also for the entire development of e-commerce in the UK.”

At the weekend the Express also unveiled its free Net access service, Express Online (see Express Joins Free Net Access Bandwagon).
