MMC To Look At Cinema Industry

The Monopolies and Mergers Commission is to investigate the supply of films to UK cinemas.

The investigation follows complaints from independent cinema owners that the main distributors will not give them access to the big blockbusting movies.

Many of the modern multi-screen cinemas are owned by American companies which also distribute films and who give preferential treatment to their own cinemas. The fee charged for rental of the blockbusters is often

increased for the smaller independent cinemas.
