Mobile ad spend in the UK continues to show significant growth, with new research from eMarketer predicting a 90% rise this year to £2.26 billion – surpassing newspaper ad revenue for the first time.
Expected to account for 15.1% of total media spending in 2014, compared with 13.8% for newspapers, eMarketer’s latest ad spending estimates predict that mobile will claim more than one third of total paid media spending in the UK by 2018.
eMarkter claims that mobile will continue to make gains on other formats across the forecast period and will soon rival spending on TV. By 2016, TV’s share of UK total media ad spending will fall to just over 23%, while mobile increases to over 26%.
By 2017, mobile is expected to become the single-largest ad channel in the UK market.
