More TV Merger Rumours
Scottish Television and Grampian are the latest ITV companies in talks regarding a merger, according to a report in today’s Independent. Grampian, worth around £85m, controls 0.7% of the UK television market while STV has 2.5%. This falls well short of the 15% maximum of UK TV a company can control.
These rumours scotch other talk of a “celtic alliance” between the Scottish companies, Ulster TV and HTV. It also coincides with yesterday’s renewed reports that Granada is on the verge of buying outright Yorkshire TV (see Newsline).
