Mountain Towers Over 9pm Slot

Cairngorms Griff Rhys Jones’ exploration of the mountains of Great Britain, which this week saw the comic roaming the Cairngorms and climbing Ben Nevis, gained an average adult audience not far off 4.7 million last night, winning the 9pm to 10pm slot for BBC One.

The programme, with its mix of history and breathtaking vistas, gave the channel a 21.3% viewing share at the time. Meanwhile, the last in the crime drama series, The Commander, drew around 4.5 million to ITV1.

BBC Two’s classic triumph over adversity film, Billy Elliot, was enjoyed by around 2.3 million (11.2%), whilst just under 2.7 million adults on average (12.2%) tuned in to the TV equivalent of watching paint dry on Channel 4, Big Brother.

Earlier, ITV1’s new five-part series, Britain’s Favourite View, which sees celebrities reveal their favourite places to go in the UK, with viewers voting on which place will go through to a final, was easily victorious in the 8pm to 9pm timeslot.

The show attracted more than 4.5 million adult viewers on average, a 22.7% share, whilst The Chase on BBC drew more than 3.7 million (18.8%).

Over on BBC Two, Coast Revisited gained almost 2.2 million whilst the Mask Of Zorro on Five attracted 1.7 million.

On Saturday evening, just over 3.2 million on average (24.2%) tuned in to BBC One’s uber camp Dance X, which finally saw Arlene’s team lose out to Bruno’s fantastic five, despite tripping the light fantastic and giving it their all.

Later, more than 3.5 million adults saw the final of ITV1’s nauseating dance comp, Baby Ballroom, as two terrifying stage school children paso dobled their way to the trophy.

Over on BBC One, more than 4.1 million (24.2%) on average chose to stick with the sensual Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft Tomb Raider.
