MPs Back Licence Fee Funding
A Commons committee inquiry has published the report, Future of the BBC in which it says the BBC’s charter should be renewed for 10 years and it should continue to be licence fee funded. However, it called the licence fee a “regressive tax” and said it was essential that payments should be made easier for those on low income.
The committee, chaired by Gerald Kaufman, also recommended that there should be a second TV licence for homes with more than one set. The report also suggests that the Board of Governors is unrepresentative of viewers and listeners.
