MTV Europe has this week introduced a new production and scheduling system which will mean splitting its single, pan-European programming into three separate schedules for each of the channel’s new European services – in northern, central and southern areas.
MTV will now be able to schedule the same programme at different times in different regions to accommodate differing viewing patterns across the three services. Digital technology will also allow the channel to transmit specially made programmes – or “versioned” segments of existing shows – which are targeted specifically at a given region. The three services will also reflect regional audience tastes through news, artists, on-air competitions and tour presentations.
