MTV Signs Content Provision Deal With Excite UK

MTV’s website, www.mtv.co.uk has announced a deal to provide content to internet portal Excite.co.uk. The terms of the agreement will see MTV provide Excite’s new music channel with charts covering different genres of music including the UK Hitlist, the European top 20, R&B and dance. The site will also have streamed news, interviews and videos.

Rebecca Miskin, general manager of Excite UK commented: “Our users will enjoy the new chart and video content on the leading music acts and our advertisers will benefit by being able to utilise a high interest, and therefore high traffic area of our site.”

Content provision is one of the potential sources of revenue still under investigation by the new media industry, as it is beginning to be realised that the e-commerce, subscription and advertising are less lucrative than previously imagined.

Commenting on MTV’s own content provision deal, Justin Lello, business development manager at MTV.co.uk said, “As our first official content distribution deal with a major portal in the UK we needed to align the MTV brand with a credible, well established business and Excite UK fitted the bill.”
