RTE SIGNS UP SMS

Irish national state broadcaster RTE, has bought a downlink from Satellite Media Services in London. This will enable it to recieve high quality audio and data.

John Ross-Barnard, chief executive officer at SMS, says that the decision by RTE is a major breakthrough for the company.”In broadcasting terms, the world is becoming a much smaller place with the ability to link satellite and ISDN facilities, using SMS as a switching centre.”

Brian Pierce, manager of radio sales for RTE in Dublin, says that the satellite downlink will make it much easier for London-based agencies and clients to deliver commercials to the station. “The link through SMS will be particularly helpful for newspaper advertisers who often produce campaigns with last minute copy changes.”
