MTV To Launch The Music Factory On New DTT Platform

MTV’s 24-hour music channel, The Music Factory (TMF), is to be one of the first brands on the BBC/BSkyB’s digital terrestrial TV platform Freeview, due to launch later this month.

The channel, which will be MTV’s only free-to-air service in the UK, claims to replicate the “rhythms and routines” of family life with dedicated music programming throughout the day.

TMF, which is currently available in Holland and Belgium, will include a dedicated breakfast zone for kids, after-school programming for teens and evening music programming aimed at the whole family. The channel will sit alongside MTV UK’s existing portfolio of digital TV channels, which includes MTV Base, MTV2, MTV Dance, MTV Hits and the VH1 network.

Michiel Bakker, MTV UK’s managing director, said: “The launch of TMF in the UK is a fantastic opportunity for us to extend the brand into the UK. Building on our unrivalled access to artists, our archive of live performance footage as well as our connection with our UK audience, TMF UK will be MTV Networks Europe’s first offering targeted at the entire family.”

The Music Factory will join the other confirmed channels on Freeview, which include all of the BBC’s digital channels, Sky News, Sky Sports News, Sky Travel and UK History (see BBC And BSkyB Name Free-To-Air DTT Service). The platform will also reportedly carry a new music channel from Emap, called Big City.
