MTV is to upgrade its transmission signal from July 1 1995. MTV Europe will digitally compress its signal on the new Eutelsat satellite and encrypt at the same time on the Astra satellite.
Peter Einstein, Business Director of MTV said, “This upgrade vaults MTV up to the next level of broadcasting. We are very excited because both compression and encryption offer benefits across the board. Our viewers get an increased choice of services. Our advertisers will receive exact audience information and the network itself will control its signal, helping to prevent piracy.” With compression and encyrption MTV will be able to monitor its pan-European distribution effectively, providing advertisers with exact information on where campaigns are broadcast and to exactly how many viewers, MTV claims.
