MXR Launches Third Digital Radio Multiplex
MXR, the digital radio group, today launches the West Midlands digital radio multiplex, delivering digital programming to an area with an adult population of around 3.3m.
The consortium, whose shareholders include Chrysalis, Capital Radio, Guardian Media Group, Jazz FM, Soul Media and UBC Media, was awarded the licence by the Radio Authority in February (see MXR Wins West Midlands Licence), staving off competition from The Digital Radio Group and West Midlands Digital Radio.
MXR will provide a total of nine programme services for the region including dedicated teenagers station, Cube, Jazz FM, adult rock from The Arrow, easy listening from Smooth, Galaxy 102.2, Heart FM and Saga Radio. In addition to the commercial services, the BBC Asian Network will also be carried.
MXR’s chairman Phil Riley, said: “This is great news for all concerned. MXR will deliver the next generation of radio that listeners in the West Midlands have been waiting for.”
