The Quarter 4 Rajar figures show the 3 national commercial stations, Classic FM, Virgin and Atlantic, taking an 8.1% share of all radio listening. This compares to the 6.5% share a year ago held by Classic and Atlantic. Classic’s share of listening has recovered again after a fall in the last quarter, it now stands at 2.9%, compared to 2.4% in Quarter 3.

Both Classic FM and Atlantic 252’s audiences have remained fairly stable over the past year with both stations increasing their weekly reach by 1% point, since Quarter 4 1992, to 10% and 8% respectively. However, Atlantic’s reach of 8% is based on the adult population of the whole country (46,662,000), its reach based on the population in its actual transmission area (30,885,000) is 11%.

Virgin increased its weekly reach by 1% point on Quarter 3 1993 to 7% and the station’s share of listening rose slightly from 2.1% to 2.2%. As with Atlantic, Virgin’s transmission area does not cover the whole country, its reach based on its actual population is also 7% although its share of listening increases slightly to 2.3%.
