National Newspaper ABC Round-Up – May 1999

National newspapers May sales figures, released by the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) today, show that the majority of titles failed to display any significant sales growth month on month. As a whole, the national newspaper market dropped 0.3% of its net sales between April and May, an actual decrease of 79,542. The News of the World continues to be the national with the highest circulation, and the Sun comes a close second.

The Independent titles picked up slightly this month, with the Independent gaining sales year on year. The Independent on Sunday continued to lose sales but less so than last month. The Express titles continued their poor performance this month, and in the meantime the Daily Mail and the Mail on Sunday carried on climbing.

The Sunday Sport and the Daily Star both sustained large actual losses in circulation.
