National Newspaper ABC Summary – June 1998
Total national newspaper circulation was down by 3.1% year on year for the ABC period January-June 1998, from 27.8 million to 26.9 million. This represents a loss of 860,000 copies across the whole national newspaper market.
Circulation for The Guardian is not included in these figures as the newspaper supplied ABC with data that was incorrect. The Guardian is to provide correct figures as soon as possible, and these will then be added to the Press database and incorporated into the full Round-Up, by market, which will feature on Newsline next week.
The FT enjoyed the greatest proportional growth again, up 13.2% year on year, and the Daily Mail managed the greatest actual growth, up by 142,917 copies.
The Independent continues its slide, this time down by 14.2%. The Sunday Mirror lost the greatest number of copies, down by 214,181 (10.8%).
