National Newspaper Cover Prices
This Monday saw the Daily Mirror’s cover price increase by one pence to 28p, however its sister publication the Sunday Mirror is staying the same at 55 pence.
The Daily Express has also put up its cover price by 3 pence and is now the same price as its rival the Daily Mail at 35 pence. The Sunday Express has also seen a price rise of 15 pence bringing its cover price to 75 pence.
The last time the Mirror was involved in the newspaper price war was in March when it reduced its cover price from 27p to 10p for one day only. No other national newspapers are intending to increase their cover prices at the moment but a recent report conducted by CIA Medianetwork predicted that press inflation will be up by at least 10% in 1996 due to the cover price wars, the continuing need for promotions and the price rises in newsprint costs.
