National Newspaper NRS – June 1998

The National Readership Survey (NRS) has released data covering the period January – June 1998 – the first period to be covered by the NRS’ new methodology.

Because of the new sampling and questioning techniques involved for this period, NRS is advising strong caution when comparing the readership data with earlier NRS periods when the survey was conducted differently.

The principal changes introduced with the May 1997 test questionnaire are:

  • regrouping and repositioning of national newspaper titles on the prompt card
  • separation in the interview of the questioning on Newspaper Supplements from the questioning on the ‘parent’ newspaper themselves
  • substantial changes in the visual prompts and question wording for Supplements, and the placement of these questions at the end of the readership section of the interview
  • a significant increase in the number of Supplements published in the survey.

Subscribers can access the actual data from the Press Planner by selecting “Press” from the drop-down box at the top of this page.
