National Newspaper NRS Round-Up – June 1999
The latest batch of national newspaper readership figures, released by the National Readership Survey (NRS) this morning, show that the tabloid Sunday papers are continuing to shed readers. With the exception of the Mail On Sunday all of the Sunday tabloids report a decline in readership year on year for the January-June 1999 period.
The Sunday People is performing particularly poorly, dropping 666,000 (14.2%) readers year on year. Similarly, the News Of The World shed 640,000 readers, but is still the country’s most popular paper with a readership of almost 11 million.
The Financial Times and the Daily Mail continue to perform strongly. The Mail, particularly, did well, gaining 625,000 (12.2%) readers.
