National Newspaper NRS Round Up – March 2000

There has been a further increase in the overall decline in national newspaper readership, according to the latest figures from the National Readership Survey (NRS). A year-on-year analysis shows the whole sector falling 4.4% – or 3.2m readers – for the six month period ended March 2000.

The largest falls came from the Sunday People (down 18.6%), the Mirror (down 13.3%), and the Times, which saw a 9.5% drop in its readership after a radical revamp saw the end of its two broadsheet sections (see Newsline Brief). Only a few titles showed an increase over the period, most notably the Daily Record (up 5.3%) and the Daily Mail (up 5.1%).
