National Newspaper October ABCs

ABC figures released for October show that the Daily Express‘s revamp has made little impact on the paper’s declining circulation in the face of the Daily Mail‘s growing strength. In October the Daily Express‘s sales fell by 3.64% to 1.205 million year-on-year and though this is a slight improvement on September’s figure, the Daily Mail continues to surge ahead. Its sales have now reached 2.105 million.

It was a similar picture in the Sunday market, with the Mail On Sunday showing a larger increase than last month, growing 6.62%. The new Sunday Express again produced slightly better results: last month it declined 12.29% compared with a drop of 15.73% in September.

The Times recorded the biggest growth of any national daily newspaper, increasing 16.08% while the Sunday Telegraph had the largest increase overall with 16.52%.

A round-up of the October national press ABCs will appear on Newsline this week.
