National Newspaper Round-Up – February

The quality national newspaper market showed a small growth in circulation of 1.3% year on year to 5.87 million. While most titles showed increases on the previous year, the FT and the Sunday Telegraph were the only newspapers to show substantial rises for September-February, with sales increases of 12.2% and 5.4% respectively. The Independent and Observer showed the biggest drops, with falls of 5% (to 248,304) and 5.6% (to 436,759) respectively.

Both of the Express titles suffered year on year decreases, with the Express On Sunday falling 2.3% while its daily sister fell 0.3%. The Mail titles continue to go from strength to strength with the Daily Mail‘s circulation growing by 7.1% while the Sunday title went up 4.8%.

The popular market showed an overall fall of 5% to 15.265 million, with the Daily Star and People showing the biggest falls. The Express title dropped 8.3% while the People fell 9.3%. The Sunday Mirror also suffered, with a fall of 7.5%, as did the Sun which fell by 5.4%.
