National Newspaper Round-Up – October
The Sunday Telegraph‘s special offers continued to reap dividends in October, when circulation grew 23.9% to 886,954. This was the highest year on year May-October growth among all the nationals. In the broadsheet market as a whole there were only two titles which saw a drop in sales from last year: the Independent fell 1.7% and the Independent on Sunday dropped 2.6%. The Sunday Times remains the largest selling broadsheet with a circulation of 1.337 million.
Only the Express On Sunday saw a year on year sales drop among the mid-markets, with a fall of 3.1% to 1.161 million while the Mail on Sunday grew by 4.6% to 2.193 million. The Daily Mail grew its circulation by the largest amount in this sector, up 6.5%, while the Express seems to have reversed its seemingly long-term decline with a growth of 0.6%.
Once again the popular market was in decline. Of all the tabloids, only the Daily Star managed to grow its sales. The title’s circulation grew 8% to 730,742. The People fell by 7% and the Sunday Mirror dropped by 6.6%.
