Natmags Closes Your Home After Circulation Slump
The National Magazine Company has announced plans to close Your Home magazine in a move that will see the publisher increase its focus on its House Beautiful title.
The decision to fold Your Home follows a 24.5% year on year decline in circulation for the title in the latest ABC results for the six months to December 2002. Home interest stablemate House Beautiful experienced an 11.6% decline during the same period, while IPC’s market leading Ideal Home saw circulation rise by 13.2% year on year to 277,105.
The closure will see content from Your Home incorporated into House Beautiful and the magazine’s acting editor, Kerryn Harper, will take over as editor of House Beautiful.
Duncan Edwards, managing director of Natmags, said: “Regrettably we have has to make a difficult decision on the future of Your Home. We have made every effort to keep the magazine alive since we acquired it as part of G and J three years ago. But Your Home is not in good shape in terms of advertising and circulation and this looks unlikely to change long-term.”
Natmags has said that where possible, alternative positions would be offered to Your Home employees.
The group recently unveiled plans to reposition Esquire in the increasingly crowded men’s lifestyle market and is launching a national press campaign to advertise the move (see Esquire Re-Positions For The Thinking Man).
