Natural Health Channel Set To Launch

The UK’s first digital TV channel dedicated to natural health issues is to be launched later this year. A range of programming covering all aspects of the natural health industry will be accompanied by a website providing links to products and services in the market.

According to a recent Which report, 25% of the UK population have used natural health remedies as an alternative to orthodox medicine or to complement it. The programming will reflect this growing interest with live lifestyle shows and celebrity specials, documentaries on natural health remedies and their pioneers, and health, diet and fitness regimes.

The joint project was set up by The Sanctuary Group and James Driscoll, the creator of the cartoon series The Shoe People. It will be backed by West 175 Media Group, which has taken a 5% stake in the venture.

Broadcast initially on SkyDigital, the channel will be free-to-air and will eventually extend its coverage to cable and digital terrestrial platforms. The website will be developed as an online natural health store offering a range of products including books, food and CD’s.

Founder and chairman James Driscoll said: “Interest in organic foods, complementary medicines, health and fitness has never been greater. With a parallel presence on television and the internet, The Natural Health Channel will have a powerful multi-media brand providing consumers with authoritative and independent advice and offering suppliers tailor-made advertising and e-commerce opportunities,”
