NBC Super Channel To Transfer

NBC Super Channel has signed a new transmission contract with BT’s Broadcast and Satellite Services (BSS); worth £30m the contract is for 10 years. The new service involves a move from Eutelsat II’s F1 satellite to the new Flight Six “Hot Bird I” satellite at 13 degrees East. All of NBC’s services will transfer to the new satellite from 1 January 1995 (dependent on the successful launch of the Hot Bird satellite).

Paul McGhee, director of Network and Business Development, NBC Super Channel, said “the Hot Bird solutin provides us with a highly flexible approach that best meets our needs through to the start of the next century.” NBC Super Channel will be distributed initially as a single analogue video channel; however the Hot Bird can also be used for simulcast transmissions, where part of the signal would be in analogue and part digitally compressed.
