Andrew Neil, editor of the Sunday Times, yesterday announced he is to leave Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation in January. Neil has been on secondment to Fox Television in America but decided to quit Murdoch’s media empire when Fox dropped the weekly prime-time news programme he was working on.
Neil will still write the Sunday Times leader column after he steps down on December 31 and will present a BBC2 political programme, Midnight Hour, once a week. John Witherow is expected to be announced as Neil’s successor.
