Net Companies Unite In Pan-European Internet Monitor

Major internet companies have joined together to create the first Pan-European Internet Monitor. Research group Pro Active International is conducting the survey in alliance with net companies including AltaVista, RealMedia, Yahoo Europe, 24/7 and Excite.

It will be conducted by telephone, face-to-face interview, and online between February and September this year in 14 European countries and will collect information from over 150,000 internet users. Providing important benchmark information on internet penetration, demographics, psychographics, internet and other media behaviour, it will also question attitudes to e-commerce and online advertising.

Director and founder of Pro Active International Liesbeth Hop said: “International internet marketers will finally have what they have been demanding for quite some time now – reliable benchmark and trend information about the growth of the internet in Europe and about European internet users. This data helps marketers to define their online strategies for the European marketplace.”

European research director at Real Media, Pierre Naggar, looks forward to using the results as a basis for future campaigns. “We are proud to be a partner in the Pan-European Internet Monitor, the first jointly-funded proprietary research survey of internet users across Europe. The data which this project provides will help to establish a basic research currency for internet advertising across Europe,” he said.
