Net Site Of The Week – MTV

Inexplicably missing from most internet ‘Cool Sites’ listings, are the web pages of MTV. This is strange, considering that MTV is surely the ideal multi- media concept, but perhaps this adds weight to the evidence that the internet is being used primarily by older business professionals.

The site is a good extension of the station, with a lot of space given to news stories, and plenty of pictures and video clips to download. Like the channel, the web-pages are colourful, quirky, informal and slightly tacky.

As advertisers scramble to get on to the internet, the MTV site must be one of the best media sites not to be selling advertising space. They do, however, have a guest book for browsers to sign, which could, like the Electronic Telegraph’s registration form, yield some useful internet demographics and provide a strong lure to advertisers.
