Netflix has reached the one million subscriber milestone in the UK and Ireland.
In a statement, the online video service said it hit the one million subscriber mark in the UK and Ireland quicker than it took Twitter to reach one million global users.
Netfix launched in the UK and Ireland at the start of the year, offering an unlimited film service for £5.99.
“This membership milestone is evidence that Netflix has rapidly gained popularity in the UK and Ireland,” said Netflix chief executive officer Reed Hastings. “Our British and Irish members clearly enjoy the ability to instantly watch a large variety of TV shows and films streaming from Netflix on their favourite devices whenever they want.”
The company plans to launch in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland by the end of 2012.
