Netscape And AOL May Merge
It is believed that two significant players in the internet industry, America Online (AOL) and Netscape, are on the verge of merging. AOL will reportedly spend around two and half billion pounds to acquire the web browser company.
If the deal goes ahead, it would be a significant boost for Netscape as its browser software is currently suffering from stiff competition with Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. As most PCs run on Microsoft’s Windows operating system, Internet Explorer is often the default browser.
However, AOL currently provides internet access for almost 15 million subscribers and if the deal goes ahead, would provide the Netscape browser software for its customers.
