New Appointments

Liberty Publishing has appointed Paul Spike, an American freelance journalist, as editor of Punch. Spike takes up the post on Friday.

Emap Business Communications has also initiated staff changes this week. Tony Harris, managing director of Emap Computing has expanded his responsibilities to include managing director of Emap Media. He takes over this new role from John Thater who resigned. Harris will oversee both divisions as well as Emap Direct. Paul Keenan, managing director of Emap Fashion adds Emap Finance and Freight and Emap Business International to his portfolio and has been appointed a member of the board.

On the advertising side, Caroline Conner has been taken-on as ad director of Cosmopolitan. Conner was previously ad director of Esquire, another National Magazine Company publication, and is currently on maternity leave. Honor Riley begins a new job at Conde Nast on Monday; she has been appointed ad director of House & Garden. Riley was previously fashion manager of Tatler and Vanity Fair.

Over at Associated Newspapers, Alison Dowe will become ad manager of ES Magazine in April; she was formerly advertising and promotions director at Debenhams.

There have been a number of changes at Southern Newspapers this week. Pam Davidson is now ad manager of the Southampton Advertiser and the Solent Advertiser; she was formerly ad manager of the New Forest Post. While, Karen Lavender ad manager of the Waterside Observer is now also ad manager of the New Forest Post.
