Accurate cinema admissions data by contractor share, which will enable the UK’s two cinema sales houses to calculate their correct market share, is to become available to the cinema industry.
This is the result of an agreement between the Cinema Advertising Association and the Cinema Exhibitors Association which means that CEA members are recommended to release their individual admissions data to the CAA.
At the moment admissions are published on a monthly basis as one total. The release of the new data, which is likely to take effect from 1 October, will enable more accurate admissions figures to be provided on a quarterly basis by the CAA as contractor shares by TV region for Carlton Screen Advertising and Pearl & Dean.
The news has been welcomed by agencies. Fiona Smedley, managing director of Universal McCann, said: “I am absolutely delighted that this agreement has been achieved. It has been long in coming and now we need to make up for lost time. The cinema medium can only gain from these statistics.”
