The newly established Communications Agencies Federation (CAF) has appointed Matthew Hooper as its first ever chairman and Hamish Pringle as its secretary.
The CAF was established last year to form a unified trade organisation to represent the communications industry. The appointments reflect the new group’s commitment to bringing trade associations together to exchange views and greater facilitate the research process (see Agency Associations Unite To Form Federation).
Hooper is currently president of the Marketing Communication Consultants Association (MCCA) and Pringle is director general of the Institute Of Practitioners In Advertising (IPA).
Both Hooper and Pringle will hold their positions for six months, when they will be replaced. Graham Lancaster, president of the Public Relations Consultants Association (PRCA) will take over as chairman, while Scott Knox, director of the Marketing Communications Consultants Association (MCCA), will become secretary.
Commenting on his appointment, Hooper said: “Bringing together these three associations is a major step forward and means that ongoing issues such as remuneration and payment by results can now be better addressed. As the first appointed chairman I believe its vital to work with other associations to gain a collective view on these and other burning issues, including recruitment and training.”
The first task of the new body will be to take part in the joint IPA/ISBA initiative to produce a new guidelines on briefings. The IPA and ISBA are set to publish new research, which will reveal that 99% of clients and agencies believe a comprehensive verbal and written brief is fundamental to the development of good creative work.
The CAF will undertake further research among the PR and corporate communications community, which will culminate in the publication of a detailed web-based document later this year.
