New Editor For Period Living & Traditional Homes

Emap Elan has announced that Sharon Parsons is to take over the editorship of Period Living & Traditional Homes, ahead of the January to June 2002 ABC consumer magazine figures coming out next month.

Parsons has been working freelance recently, but was previously editor of IPC’s Homes & Ideas, which closed last year as part of the group’s cull of underperforming titles (see IPC Closes Six Magazines). Commenting on her appointment she said: “This is a title with enormous potential and a readership that I truly identify with. I’m doing up an old property myself and completely relate to the passion our readers have for their homes.”

Only a handful of interiors magazines saw a year on year increase in circulation in the last set of ABC figures (see below), and Period Living was not among them, falling 4.9%. However, the entry of the Ikea Room customer magazine gave the market a boost, and with IPC also reshuffling its interiors editorial line-up (see New Appointments Across IPC Magazine Portfolio), the sector could yet see a period of rejuvenation, especially since the nation’s obsession with DIY seems to continue unabated.
