New Editor For Sporting Life

John Mulholland, currently media editor of the Guardian, has been appointed editor of the Sporting Life , the Mirror Group has announced.

The 139-year old title, which publishes its final edition as a racing paper tomorrow, will be redesigned and relaunched as an all-sports daily, reappearing at the beginning of October. Its horse racing identity is being merged with the younger Racing Post , which will continue as Britain’s only racing paper.

Deputy chief executive Kelvin MacKenzie said: “The next four months give us an opportunity to remodel and relaunch The Life as Britain’s first, genuine all-sports daily paper.”

Mirror Group’s initial circulation target for the Sporting Life will be in the 80,000 to 90,000 range.

…Nick Thompson has left his position of circulation and marketing head at the new Sport First . No replacement has yet been found
