New Mags Target Growing Number Of Divorcees
Two new magazines are set to launch targeting the growing number of divorcees in Britain. New Era, whose cover line proclaims ‘There is Life After Marriage’ hits the newsstands next month and Divorce will launch initially as a quarterly subscription mag.
The market for magazines dealing with divorce and its after-effects is booming according to New Era publisher David Cordery, with 180,000 people divorcing each year, and many more affected by marriage breakdowns. “New Era is the first magazine of its kind to fill this niche in the market and provide support and advice at a time when people are extremely vulnerable. We believe it is coming to the market at exactly the right time,” he said.
Both titles will deal with the reality of divorce without depressing its readers. Helpful advice will be mixed with lifestyle features on topics related to those going through a divorce. A touch of glamour will come from the famous break-ups of celebrities, with Jerry Hall gracing the front cover of New Era, detailing her post-Mick life.
New Era will be a bi-monthly title priced at £2.95. Divorce, published by Heywood Communications, will be a quarterly subscription title initially with a planned print run of 50,000, but hopes to eventually become a paid monthly title.
