New Medium For Southern Newspapers
Southern Newspapers, publisher of The Dorset Evening Echo and other regional titles, is believed to be exploring the possibility of expanding its services into television. The company is apparently considering applying for licences to run city-based television services.
Speculation comes in the wake of Southern Newspaper’s announcement that it is to change its name to New Communications & Media, and move to the main stock market (see Newsline).
The group is understood to be considering running two-year local terrestrial franchises. It reported a 70.3% increase in pre-tax profits in its latest interim results, and this development symbolises Southern Newspapers’ expansion out of its Southampton heartland.
