New Musical Express Relaunches

This week the NME has undertaken its biggest ever revamp throughout its 46 year history. As well as a resize of page, the NME now claims to be the world’s first full-colour weekly ‘rock ‘n’ roll’ newspaper.

Whilst the content of the paper remains more or less the same, the changes which have been made would seem to have given the paper a greater capacity for carrying advertising (ad:ed ratio of 40:60). The cover price has also risen from 95p to £1.05.

The aim of the revamp seems to be to counter the downward trend that the NME has been experiencing over the past eighteen months in both ABC and NRS certificates. Current UK and Eire circulation stands at 92,905 compared to 102,975 in the same period of the previous year. Readership currently stands at 530,000 compared to 663,000 the previous year.
