New National Paper Planned

International News & Media, the West Midlands publisher, has confirmed details of a new national newspaper it plans to launch later this year.

Today’s News will be a 36-page daily tabloid covering general news. International told MediaTel that the title will cost 30p and have an initial print-run of 300,000, with an expected circulation of 200,000. The title is currently looking to appoint a sales house.

International’s last new paper was the Midland & Northern Telegraph which launched last September concentrating on celebrity, politics and business news. According to International the titlecurrently has a circulation of around 50,000.

The most recent launches of new national newspapers have been somewhat disastrous: Sunday Business, which launched in April, has faced a declining circulation and is now in the hands of financial administrators *Sunday Business In Financial Crisis, whilst The Planet On Sunday closed just four days after its first issue in June *National Sunday Newspaper Closes After First Issue.
