New Satellite Channels

The next year will see three new satellite channels launching into what is becoming a rapidly growing sector, in terms of new launches. The three are as follows:

Autumn 93 – UK Living – A women’s channel owned jointly by Thames TV and United Artists. Details on programming are not available at present, although negotiations are understood to be taking place with the BBC with regard to the use of BBC archive programmes.

April 94 – Nick at Night – The adult version of Nickelodeon, showing old childhood favourites. Owned jointly by Viacom and BSkyB.

Early 94 – VH1 – Again aimed at adults, VH1 will offer a mix of music, life- style and comedy programming. The channel will be a wholly owned subsidiary of MTV Europe.

Both Nick at Night and VH1 are part of Viacom International.
