New Statesman Expands Magazine Feel

Politics and current affairs magazine, the New Statesman, is to launch a new design next month following two years of reader research.

Publisher Spencer Neal says that the title intends to introduce more ‘magazine devices’ along with new iconography and a bolder, cleaner logo. He says that market research showed that New Statesman readers wanted to read more of the magazine, more quickly. As a result articles have been shortened slightly and more emphasis has been placed on the magazine’s arts and culture coverage, which appears in The Back Half.

The redesign will appear on 18 September, and coincides with the title’s Toward A Radical Century conference to be held at the London School of Economics.

The new look is to be promoted in a £500,000 mixed media campaign including national broadsheets ads, posters, direct marketing and ‘more opportunistic’ campaigns.
