New Subscribers Choose Cable Over Satellite
GFK Marketing Services LTD have conducted research which shows that twice as many people in Britain intend to sign up for cable TV, once available in their area, rather than satellite.
GFK’s research revealed that rather than install satellite, nearly 2 million householders would prefer cable. GFKs spokesman, John Binks said “Cable seems to be attractive for two reasons. Firstly, it offers the possibility of low cost telephone services; secondly, cable TV can supply local television channels, which satellite cannot.”
January 1995 saw an increase of 31,000 in household satellite dishes, bringing the total to 2,962,000. January 1994 saw an increase of 30,000 and January 1993, 44,000. Figures from the ITC show that at the end of 1994, 1,056,000 households were receiving satellite channels via cable. There is currently a cable and satellite penetration of British homes of 18%.
